Frequently Asked Questions

What is electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the only permanent solution to removing unwanted facial and body hair regardless of hair or skin color, hair texture, and skin type.

There are three methods of Electrolysis:

  1. Galvanic ~ Produces a chemical reaction to destroy the hair follicle.
  2. Thermolysis ~ Produces heat to destroy the hair follicle.
  3. Blend ~ A combination of Galvanic and Thermolysis.

They are all safe, permanent and effective.

How does electrolysis work?

The procedure involves sliding a thin, sterile probe into the hair follicle and applying a small amount of electrical current. This destroys the dermal papilla (the blood supply for the follicle) and an area called “the bulge” or hair germ cells, all of which cause hair to grow and regenerate.

Is it really permanent?

Absolutely! Unlike other hair removal methods that offer a temporary solution, electrolysis is permanent and is the only FDA approved method of permanent hair removal. Whether you are an individual with dark or light skin tone or an individual with dark, blonde, red or gray hair electrolysis can successfully and permanently remove unwanted hair.

Who is a good candidate for electrolysis?

Almost anyone looking for a permanent solution to removing unwanted facial and/or body hair. Electrolysis works on any skin color, hair color and hair texture regardless of age.

Will I need multiple treatments?

Yes! The average amount of time of full permanent results is 18 – 24 months. However, treatment varies from person to person. Hair grows in cycles so there’s no exact amount of time for a person, but some permanent results should be seen within 3 – 6 months.

Does electrolysis hurt?

Individuals often describe a pinching or mild stinging sensation. Sensitivity varies greatly from person to person and some areas of the body are more sensitive than others. Be aware that stress, monthly cycles and uneasiness toward the treatments may make sensitivity higher. Discomfort is minimal and settings can always be adjusted if necessary.

What are possible side effects?

Normal side effects can include initial redness and mild swelling that subsides fairly quickly. Some individuals may experience pinpoint scabs or light bruising.

Is electrolysis safe?

Absolutely! Electrolysis has been practiced since 1875 and has a history of being safe and effective. During each treatment; one time use disposable probes, gloves and sterilized tweezers are used. These along with the sanitation and disinfecting protocol set by the CDC, and the thorough training and education of the electrologist, all lend to a safe experience.

What parts of the body can be treated?

Electrolysis is safe for all areas of the face and body with the exception of inside the nostrils and ear canal.
